Marvel Mythology

The integration of mythological characters in dramatic present day settings has in part led to the incredible success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last ten years. Thor and Loki in particular are significantly influential in Marvel storylines as they have been from the early days of the Marvel comics in the 1940s.

As with Tolkien and Wagner, Norse and Germanic mythology from the 13th Century (and earlier) provide the inspiration and concepts for many of the modern day storylines. Despite differing names (Marvel’s Thor and Loki being Wagner’s Donner and Loge), the nature of the characters remains the same.

Join us for BPO’s performance of Das Rheingold to see if you can find more links between Marvel’s mythological world and Wagner’s musical world.

The Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Richard Wagner’s opera, Das Rheingold, in a concert performance on 13th October 2019 in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

Tickets can be purchased from the Symphony Hall website or from BPO members.
