CHARLOTTE MOSELEY

Charlotte Moseley began learning the violin with Mary Howles and Michael Seal. Playing in orchestras from a young age, she developed her orchestral training in the Academy Chamber Orchestra with Peter Bridle MBE. In 2008, she gained a place at Chethams School of Music in Manchester where she studied violin with Eyal Kless and Benedict Holland. In her final year Charlotte, along with her quartet, made their Wigmore Hall debut and were broadcast live on the BBC Radio 3 In Tune programme. She was awarded the school’s Mozart Scholarship for outstanding chamber music work as well as winning their Dewhurst and Torevell prize. In 2010, Charlotte was appointed leader of the CBSO Youth Orchestra, a position she held until 2015. With them she worked under conductors such as Andrew Litton, Andris Nelsons, Edward Gardner, John Wilson, Ben Gernon and Jac Van Steen.

​After winning the Norman George Scholarship in 2014, Charlotte studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Alexander Sitkovetsky, graduating in 2015. During her time at RNCM, Charlotte performed in all the college’s orchestras including co-leading the RNCM Symphony Orchestra in their performances in the Bridgewater Hall. She also appeared as guest leader of orchestras including the Chester Philharmonic and Lancashire Chamber Orchestras and the Manchester Festival Orchestra. In her fourth year at the RNCM Charlotte successfully auditioned for a place on the professional experience scheme with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Her passion for chamber music led Charlotte to establish the Virr String Quartet who were winners of the 2014 RNCM Nossek Romantic String Quartet Prize and finalists in the RNCM Schubert and Hirsch Prizes. Over their three years of performing together they gave recitals in Manchester, Birmingham and London and performed in the prestigious RNCM Chamber Music Festival on three separate occasions. The quartet also performed in masterclasses with Frans Helmerson and a public workshop with the late Peter Maxwell-Davies performing his Naxos Quartet No.3.

In September 2015, Charlotte began a Masters Degree at the Royal Academy of Music with Mateja Marinkovic and Jack Liebeck. In October 2015 she led the Royal Academy Sinfonia in their four performances of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro in the Hackney Empire Theatre with Jane Glover and Janet Suzmann. Following this she worked with the London Sinfonietta in their ‘side-by-side’ project performing region 3 of Stockhausen’s Hymnen ​which was broadcast on BBC radio 3. Charlotte also performed in the BBC Get Playing Virtual Orchestra recording of Bizet’s Carmen with Marin Alsop as part of the BBC’s Get Playing scheme.

In partnership with St. John’s Church, Bromsgrove, Charlotte played an active role in establishing the Orchestra of St. John (OSJ) in 2011. As the leader of OSJ, Charlotte and conductor Richard Jenkinson have worked with soloists such as Mark Bebbington, Ben Frith, David Le Page, Paul Barritt and Louise Williams. In 2016, Charlotte was invited to lead the Sinfonia of Birmingham, with conductor Michael Seal in their summer concert.

Charlotte’s recent concerto performances have included Vivaldi Four Seasons with the Sinfonia of Birmingham and Orchestra da Camera; Mendelssohn violin concerto with the Walsall Symphony Orchestra, Sale Chamber Orchestra and Coventry Youth Orchestra; Bruch violin concerto in G minor with the Telford Orchestra and Eroica Camerata; Elgar violin concerto with the Halesowen Orchestra; Tchaikovsky violin concerto with the Westmorland Symphony Orchestra, Redditch Orchestra and Orchestra of St. John; as well as Sibelius violin concerto with the Open University Orchestra and Orchestra of St. John; and Mozart violin concerto in A major also with the Orchestra of St.John.

In July 2017 Charlotte graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with Distinction. She was also awarded the Diploma of the Royal Academy for an outstanding final recital. Charlotte plays on an 1884 Joseph Hel violin. She is supported by the David Morgan Music Trust, the Helen Mackaness Foundation and the Elmley Foundation. Forthcoming engagements include performances of Sibelius violin concerto, Tchaikovsky violin concerto and Elgar violin concerto with the Milton Keynes Sinfonia, Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. John.
