Gill Pendrous

  • Instrument

    Violin

  • Outside of BPO, what is your occupation?

    Retired GP

  • How long have you been a member of BPO?

    Since 2016

  • What inspired you to take up your instrument?

At the age of 7 , a desire to become famous and appear on TV !

  • How did you come to join the orchestra?

My husband was a past member of the orchestra and we thought it would be fun to join together .

  • Most treasured occasion with the BPO?

The best concert for me each year  is when we play at Leominster Priory . It's a beautiful venue of course but the lovely audience at Leominster really makes it . My favourite concert there has to be playing the Richard Strauss Alpine Symphony.

  • Any moments you would rather forget?

I'd rather not forget anything although these days I sometimes do !

  • Favourite composer? Least favourite composer?

My favourite has to be Brahms .

There are very few composers I don't like but some Shostakovich I find too grim and depressing and I can now remember playing music from Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck depicting a drowning ..now that is something I'd like to forget .

  • Work(s) you would like to play before you die?

Having invested £1 in buying the music when a local music shop closed down , I'd like to master the solo part to the Tchaikowsky violin concerto,  just for fun . Over the past year I've loved playing it whenever I've nothing else that I have to prepare ( which is rare ).

So far I'm  up to page 11 ..there's 20 more pages to go ..just 2 more years ..and after that it would have to be the Brahms violin concerto ..
