Lloyd-Webber champions BPO

In an exciting move for music in the West Midlands the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) have welcomed world renowned cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber OBE as a patron.

A former principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Lloyd Webber has again showed his passion for the music community of the Birmingham area stating, “I am a great admirer of the BPO and all the work it does around the West Midlands”.

The BPO, based out of Birmingham University, is a leading non-professional orchestra and as well as gaining such a high profile patron have had recent success by winning the ‘What’s On Readers’ Award’ for Best Orchestra in The Midlands 2020.

‘It’s so exciting for the orchestra to be back playing live in front of an audience, and to have Julian’s support is amazing” said BPO chair Jane Eminson.

‘Julian adores music. He shares the passion and excitement that we as an orchestra represent’ added Music Director Michael Lloyd.

Lloyd Webber joins current patron and one of the foremost pianists in world music, Peter Donohoe CBE, in helping shine the spotlight on the orchestra and their work.
